Two Roman stone sarcophagi have been found on the a building site in the middle of Newcastle.
There have been other finds on the same site which include cremation urns, a cobbled Roman road a Roman well and a Medieval well, the remains of the foundations of Roman shops and homes, along with the remains of flint tools from Stone Age hunter-gatherers.
Its astonishing to think that there are still ancient finds which we may unearth in the future.
Wherever you walk in our region you may be walking over the past and even the remains of our ancestors, some who came from around the world, who where here before.
Thankfully these ancient artefacts will be saved for the region and will be given to the new Great North Museum rare northern find
